Why see Joan?

A World Premiere Work From Stephen Belber

Brooklyn-based theater company Colt Coeur continues to hone their pioneering penchant for original, story-driven and visceral theatre during their groundbreaking 2018/19 theater season, kicking things off in the new year with the world premiere of Joan. A brand new work by American playwright Stephen Belber (whose last stint on Broadway saw Frank Langella garner a Tony nomination in Match), Joan stars two-time Tony nominated stage and screen actress Johanna Day in the titular role, with direction from Colt Coeur's founding artistic director Adrienne Campbell-Holt.

As seen in Belber's previous works, at the heart of Joan lies a mystery. A quintessential American woman of the 21st century, Joan fundamentally disagrees about what is happening in her life and why - she's a mom, a wife, a lover and a sister, fulfilling these roles with grace and love. Yet she's also reckless, at odds with her surroundings and searching for meaning underneath the pastoral surface of her life... Who she is and who she wants to be can't quite seem to meet in the middle. Don't miss the thought-provoking and poignant original work during its strictly limited run at the New York's Arts Center this winter.
