It's 50 years ago that the Peanuts holiday special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, first aired on CBS. The recent Peanuts movie has introduced Charles Schulz's characters to a whole new generation of fans, so there's no better time to revisit their first animated outing.
The story begins with Charlie wondering if we've all lost sight of the true spirit of Christmas, amongst all the feasting and presents. In order to cheer him up, Lucy convinces him to put on a Christmas play at his school, and during its production Charlie's faith in the holiday season is restored. The Rob Schwimmer trio will lend some live accompaniment to this special screening at the Met, bringing the unmistakable jazzy score of Vince Guaraldi to life. There'll also be an audience sing-along of holiday favorites after the film finishes.
