Brooklyn Academy of Music present a very special event, pairing two legends of soul and funk for one night only. Patti LaBelle's 50 year plus career began with the group The Bluebelles in the 1960s, who began as just another Philly girl group but by the 1970s had morphed into Labelle, fusing disco and funk into an innovative blend which peaked with the worldwide Number 1 Lady Marmalade. After the band disbanded, LaBelle went a solo, winning multiple Grammys in the process and scoring hits like the Michael McDonald duet On My Own.
Billy Ocean was one of the biggest British stars of the 1980s, and is best known for the Grammy-winning Caribbean Queen and When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going, which was the theme song for the Michael Douglas movie The Jewel of the Nile. Catch these two performers together on February 15th at the Gilman Opera House.
