Why see Greek the Opera?
The Story of a Modern Day Oedipus
This modern take on Sophocles's Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex is a contemporary and relatable story of love and disaster. Written by Steven Berkoff from his play Greek, the show is set in London's vibrant East End in the 1980s, where the two act opera explores themes of life and death, violence and racism.
Eddy is a young man eager to be successful and make something of his life but is deterred after hearing of his negative future, as told by a fortune teller. The future seems bleak and things get worse when Eddy falls for a waitress who has just murdered her husband, but he is determined to create a better life for himself than the fortune teller predicted.
