Crossing

Crossing at BAM Gilman Opera House

Why see Crossing?

NY Premiere

Drawing inspiration from his time as a Civil War nurse and taking its title from his famed 'Crossing Brooklyn Ferry', this opera from LA Opera's artist in residence Matthew Aucoin is a sinuous, moving exploration into the spaces between us as seen through the eyes of one of the American canon's most celebrated poets, Walt Whitman.

Crossing is directed by American Repertory Theatre artistic director Diane Paulus and features in demand opera collective A Far Cry who lend their pioneering vision to this haunting work. Taking you deep into D.C sick ward where Whitman is moved by the soldiers he tends, we follow his relationship with one, John Wormley, who ultimately sends Whitman on an existential journey where he questions the human connection and his place as a writer within it.
