Overlaying the melancholy, meanwhile - so delicate as to be near-invisible - are passages of exquisite, minimal dance.

The Landmark Dance-Theater Company Returns
Internationally renowned contemporary dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal, under legendary German choreogrpapher Pina Bausch's direction, has stood at the forefront of expressionist dance-theater since its inception in 1976. Over three decades since its New York debut at BAM, the company returns to restage the original double bill as part of the 2017 Next Wave Festival.
Set to the music of Henry Purcell, Cafe Muller was inspired by Bausch's childhood memories of watching her father work in his cafe in Germany during and post WWII. Alongside this dark, reflective and wildly beautiful piece, the company will perform Bausch's interpretation of Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring, a frenzied carnival of passion, fear and desire.
