Casa Valentina

Casa Valentina at Samuel J. Friedman Theatre

Why see Casa Valentina?

Set in the idyllic Catskills mountains in the 1960s, Casa Valentina is a discrete venue for men who enjoy dressing up and acting as women. When the opportunity to become an official organisation arises, Casa Valentina must decide whether this would help gain their clientele recognition in society or wreck havoc on their personal lives.

Casa Valentina is a humorous and uplifting play written by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein - the writer of the multi-award winning musical Kinky Boots - about a group of marginalized men trying to find their place in open society. The production has been nominated for four 2014 Tony Awards, including the coveted Best Play Award and Best Costume Design of a Play.

The play is inspired by the real life Chevalier d'Eon resort, aka Casa Susanna. It is directed by Joe Mantello and stars Tony winner Gabriel Ebert and Mare Winningham amongst its cast members.
