Golden Globe Winner Debbie Allen Directs New Revival Of August Wilson's Play On Broadway
Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Debbie Allen (Fame) directs this new revival of August Wilson's classic play, now showing on Broadway. Starring Oscar and Tony Award nominee Taraji P Henson alongside Cedric 'The Entertainer', Joe Turner's Come and Gone looks at the lives of African Americans in the 1910s. This new revival is surely one to watch.
What Is The Story?
It's 1911, and Seth and Bertha Holly are running a small boarding house in Pittsburgh. Their doors are open to provide a safe haven for Black travelers caught in the chaos of the Great Upheaval. Among the several visitors over the course of a week is Herald Loomis - a man struggling to discover himself again after years of slavery. Joe Turner's Come and Gone is part of Wilson's American Century Cycle and delves into themes of identity, community, and finding freedom.
