New York City Ballet: Here and Now No. 1 - Wheeldon

New York City Ballet: Here and Now No. 1 - Wheeldon at David H Koch Theater

Why see New York City Ballet: Here and Now No. 1 - Wheeldon?

Here/now 1

This pure celebration of New York City Ballet's own wunderkind Christopher Wheeldon sees the company take on three of his best-known works, nicely climaxing with American Rhapsody, his newest piece set to the romantic music of Gershwin.

After leaving the Royal Ballet in his native Britain, Christopher Wheeldon became the toast of the town when he joined the New York City Ballet at 19, going on to become the principal soloist in a short time. In 1998 he created Polyphonia, his first work for the company, before retiring from dance in 2000 to concentrate solely on choreography. After becoming the company's first resident Artist, he has gone on to create ballets all over the world and is known for his evocative eye for detail and stupendous talent. In 2015, he saw his first Broadway commission, An American in Paris, open to huge acclaim, winning him a Tony Award in the process.
