Why see New York City Ballet: Balanchine Black & White?
Unique and INGENIOUS
Balanchine's Black & White pieces are a groundbreaking presentation of neoclassical ballet which forgoes the elaborate costumes and sets synonymous with productions of the ballet master's calibre, to showcase his astounding musicality simply and succinctly. The work employs a blank canvas approach in order to emphasise the skill of his dancers and the beauty of the music which accompanies them.
Program
Concerto Barocco
With music by Bach, this double violin concerto is one of Balanchine's greatest masterpieces as two lead ballerinas each depict one of the soloists instrumentals in this virtuoso duet.
Agon
Considered the pinnacle of Balanchine's and Igor Stravinsky's collaboration, Agon is an intense masterpiece. With its highly athletic and competitive choreography it remains one of NYCB's signature pieces.
The Four Temperaments
The Four Temperaments is a ballet with unceasing appeal. Referencing the psychological humours, a medieval concept, The Four Temperaments explores more modern movement but still with a classical grounding.
