Why see Hungarian State Opera - Swan Lake?

The Most Enchanting Ballet Of The Classical Repertory

With their historic home venue currently under construction, the world renowned Hungarian State Opera embarks on a historic tour of US shores, bringing the music of their homeland to New York City's Lincoln Center for a strictly limited run this Fall. The 134 year old company debuts a vibrant program of ballet and opera works, including the US premieres of Ferenc Erkel's Bank Ban and Janos Vajda's one-act opera Mario and the Magician.

Joining forces with the Hungarian National Ballet, the Hungarian State Opera presents a brand new production of perennial favorite Swan Lake. Set to a richly melodic score by Russian Romantic Icon Tchaikovsky, the enchanting tale sweeps the audience up in its fairy tale whimsy and classic choreography.

What is the Swan Lake About?

When Prince Siegfried chances upon a group of swans whilst out hunting, he can't believe his eyes when one of the birds transforms into the beautiful Odette. She explains to the bewitched Siefried that she and her avian companions are under a terrible curse that can only be broken with true love and committed devotion. Readily, he promises her his undying love, yet their union is doomed thanks to the machinations of the evil Baron Von Rothbart and his daughrer Odile.
