David Ives (Venus in Furs) brings his adaptation of the classic farce Pierre Corneille's Le Lenteur to the Classic Stage Company. Corneille's play was first performed in 1644, and features enough mistaken identities and star-crossed lovers to make Shakespeare jealous. This Off-Broadway production of Ives witty adaptation boasts a cast that includes Broadway alum Carson Erod (Peter and the Starcatcher), Christian Conn (Desire Under the Elms) and Aubrey Deeker (The Mentalist). Michael Kahn directs.
Dorante meets two lovely ladies named Clarice and Lucrece in Paris, and plumps for Lucrece as his future bride. Unfortunately, Dorante has the two women's names mixed up - Lucrese (the subject of his desires) is actually Clarice, so when his father tries to marry him off to Clarice, Dorante is heartbroken, when he should be delighted! Add Dorante's all too honest manservant Clinton into the mix and you have the set-up for a farce for the ages.
