Audra McDonald returns to Broadway as Billie Holiday in a Tony winning performance
Audra McDonald returns to Broadway as Billie Holiday in this look back on the First Lady of Jazz's life. Her story is told through the music and songs she created.
Set inside a smokey Philadelphia nightclub in late 1950s, the musical recreates one of Ms. Holiday's last ever performances - occurring just four months before her untimely death.
Fans of the blues singer will be delighted to hear Ms. McDonald, now a six-time Tony Award-winning actress, perform some of Billie Holiday's classic hits - including Strange Fruit, When a Woman Loves a Man, and God Bless the Child. Her sensational performance won her the 2014 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Play, making her the only person in Tony history to win an award in four different acting categories.
