An Evening with John Williams and Yo-Yo Ma at Isaac Stern Auditorium

Why see An Evening with John Williams and Yo-Yo Ma?

a great conducts a great

Legendary film composer John Williams joins with his celebrated friend and collaborator Yo-Yo Ma for a one night only performance at Carnegie Hall! The pair will be accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra, with Williams conducting and Yo-Yo displaying his phenomenal artistry on the cello, for a programme containing a selection of works from Williams' timeless film scores as well as his Cello Concerto.

John Williams

Now in his nineties, Williams' work goes far beyond simply being the musical backdrop to movies; in some sense the entire experience of generations of audiences was defined by his grand compositions. Everyone in an instant can recognize the triumphant Star Wars main theme, become lost in awe to the unmistakable Jurassic Park theme, or be sent into a state of tension by the Jaws theme.

Yo-Yo Ma

Child-prodigy turned adult-superstar cello virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma is a much loved and respected figure in the modern classical scene. Born in Paris to Chinese parents who were both distinguished musicians in their own right, Ma was raised in New York and attended Julliard, Columbia and Harvard. The illustrious musician has featured on Williams' soundtrack, as well as those of Ennio Morricone and others, and his talent has seen him serve on the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
