About The Smashing Pumpkins

Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early '90s, the Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional underground rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted guitars. With iconic albums 'Siamese Dream' and 'Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness' - Corgan and co solidified themselves one of the greatest alternative rock bands of all time. In fact, the Smashing Pumpkins became the model for alternative rock success. Now, far into the 21st century, The Smashing Pumpkins have remained beloved by fans of alternative music.

Outstanding !!

I had seen them in 1996 and it was terrible. The sound was distorted and the stage was all black with no lights. Last night couldn’t have been better or more different. The sound level was perfect, the band was very tight, and the setlist impeccable. Bravo Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlain!!! ... Read more

Excellent performance

Smashing Pumpkins, you either hate them or love them. I've always liked Corgan's songwriting and have followed him throughout all the bands incarnations. Last nights performance at MSG was tight and professional. Billy is not the most endearing personality and to his credit, he did not reveal that during the show. What we received was a faithful rendition of many of their classics from the original band that were performed with passion. The stage show was elaborate with Billy doing many costume changes. The music was neither enhanced nor suffered as a result of the staging, with the music and his voice carrying the night to a very satisfying conclusion. Billy and his band mates played for three hours plus and gave the audience our monies worth. To me. a totally enjoyable and satisfying way to spend a Wednesday night in New York! ... Read more

Mixed bag

Everything from Gish, S. Dream, and infinite sadness sounded amazing. And for me that was enough. For a three hour Reunion show, you're going to hear some things you don't care for. For me, anything on adore and machina I find uninteresting, But, some people like it, so they played it. Could maybe have done without stairwsy to heaven and space odity. Pretty unoriginal covers The ego driven Billy induced, Billy love fest is a bit awkward, but he has always been that nerdy big kid that needs your adoration. Yeah, he's serious up there wearing my mothers curtains as a cape . I give a pass to all of thiat nonesense though . Billy shreds those timeless riffs from my youth and his voice sounded great, and the guy seems genuinely happy, while jimmy annd james let Billy do wtf he wants. For much of the night Jimmy was his bad ass self on the drums. I was waiting to hear him Bonham out on stairway. I guess only Bonham does that though. The good heavily outweighed the bad .pumpkins rule ... Read more
