What makes 'Travesties' so deeply engaging and hilarious and touching isn't its flashy erudition but its author's rapt fascination with the workings of the human mind and its enduring relationship with art

Nominated for FOUR Tony Awards and two Drama Desk Awards including two cast awards for Tom Hollander!
Roundabout Theatre Company partner with London's Menier Chocolate Factory to bring this pleasurable revival of Tom Stoppard's bouncy historical romp to Broadway in Spring 2018. Original Wes End star Tom Hollander (The Night Manager, Pirates of the Caribbean) reprises his performance as Henry Carr, a decidedly unremarkable consular clerk in 1917 Zurich and unreliable narrator whose memories form the basis for the play. Hysterically funny, somewhat educational and full of Stoppard's mind-bending literary and farcical genius, Travesties is a theatrical gem! And now nominated for four 2018 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Tom Hollander.
Based on the recollections of the lowly consular clerk, Travesties takes us on a deliciously irreverent journey into the pre-war society of 1917 Zurich. Iconic figures and fellow residents such as James Joyce, Dada pioneer Tristan Tzara and Lenin all feature in Carr's reminisces, centered around an amateur production of the Importance of Being Earnest. As Carr struggles to separate the plot of the play from his real memories, he begins to weave an intricate web of mistaken identities, misunderstandings and complex philosophies held together by witty repartee and whimsy.
First seen in 1974, Travesties went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play in 1976.
