Dead Outlaw Announces Closing Date

Daniel, June 23rd, 2025

The Tony-nominated show will play until the end of the month

After 87 performances, including previews, Broadway's Dead Outlaw will take its final bow on June 29 at the Longacre Theatre in New York City.

The musical earned a remarkable seven Tony Award nominations this yearincluding one for Best New Musicaland received widespread critical acclaim. Despite its accolades, the show has struggled at the box office, making continued performances financially unsustainable.

Dead Outlaw's producers Lia Vollack and Sonia Friedman said, "Like Elmer McCurdy, Dead Outlaw is a true outlierstrange, singular, and enduring. It never followed the rulesand that has made it one of the most daring and fulfilling productions we've had the privilege to stage. Despite glowing reviews and a loyal following, the commercial momentum just wasn't fast enough in a crowded season. As the show reminds us, sometimes the most incredible lives are cut short. This may be the end of Dead Outlaw's time on Broadway, but we believe deeply in its future and the afterlife it so richly deserves. Endless thanks to the creators, cast, crew, co-producers, investors and Audible for bringing it to life. It's been an honor."

With the productions last performance on the 29th of June - this is your last chance to see the Tony-nominated musical live! Grab your tickets here while you still can!

What Is The Story?

How did the body of an Old West train robber from Oklahoma wind up hanging in a Southern California amusement park ride in 1976? Dead Outlaw tells the story of Elmer McCurdy's bizarre and incredible journey, a man who lived a life filled with twice as many escapades after his death. This is a must-see production about a legend that demands to be told.
