The New Cast Joins Jinkx Monsoon In Cole Escola’s Broadway Play
From August 4, Cole Escola's Broadway play will be getting a whole new cast.
Michael Urie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jenn Harris will all be joining the Oh, Mary cast. Urie (Shrinking, Ugly Betty) will be taking on the role of Mary's Teacher, Nanjiani (Marvel's Eternals, The Big Sick) will be playing Mary's Husband, and Harris (Elsbeth) will join the cast as Mary's Chaperone.
Urie is a regular on Broadway, having recently performed in Spamalot and Once Upon a Mattress. For Nanjiani and Harris, Oh Mary will be the pair's Broadway debut.
The new cast will be replacing Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, and Bianca Leigh, who will take their final bow on August 2.
What Is The Plot?
In early 1865, Abraham Lincoln was swiftly and unknowingly approaching the end of his life. During this time, we see Mary, his "foul and hateful wife" stifled and unhappy, dealing with a life that wasn't what she intended as she works her way through her lifelong desires and unfulfilled dreams. In this raucous five-star comedic tour-de-force, we see Mary launch herself into the world of theatre with aplomb, leading to a fantastically ridiculous finale as silly as Lincoln himself was serious!
