To Kill A Mockingbird Mesmerizes Critics And Announces Extension!

Now playing at the Shubert Theatre in an extended run!

Surrounded by much anticipation Harper Lee's masterpiece, To Kill A Mockingbird, finally opened on Broadway last night. Starring Jeff Daniel as the famous Atticus Finch it seems like this new Broadway play mesmerized the critics.

The Hollywood Reporter praised the cast saying that "Daniels gives the production a commanding center alongside the heartbreakingly good Keenan-Bolger, so sparky and amusing as Scout strains to understand what's happening. But this is very much an ensemble piece in which every element is indispensable'. The publication finished their review with "This is theatrical storytelling so assured and involving it's hard to imagine anyone not being mesmerized. Sorkin has pulled off something quite remarkable..."

The New York Times also praised the production saying "Mr. Sher has made sure that every moment, every perfectly cast face, every stage picture and costume tells the story so precisely that it would do so even without words". Variety mirrored the sentiment saying "The ever-likeable Daniels, whose casting was genius, gives a strong and searching performance as Atticus Finch... The rest of the large and very fine cast perform their parts with all their hearts, under Sher's impeccably fine-tuned direction".

After these stellar reviews its no surprise that To Kill A Mockingbird has announced that they are extending their run on Broadway through to September 8, instead of the previously announced July 7.

What is To Kill A Mockingbird about?

Told through the eyes of 13-year-old Scout, Mockingbird is set in the pre-civil rights era Deep South of the 1930s. When local black man Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white girl, Scout's lawyer father Atticus Finch takes on the case, determined to try and give Tom a fair trial. With his decision to defend Tom, Atticus finds himself ostracised from the community, and the lives of his family put into danger. As the trial approaches, Atticus must choose whether to buckle under the mounting pressure or to stand his ground and fight for what is right.

To Kill A Mockingbird is now playing at the Shubert Theatre through to September 8.
