Why See Neutral Milk Hotel?
Neutral Milk Hotel may not have been the most prolific of bands, but their lasting legacy has been massive. Their debut On Avery Island and especially its follow up, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, have proved hugely influential records on the current crop of rock bands, with everyone from Franz Ferdinand to Arcade Fire hailing their importance.
Lead singer Jeff Mangum is a famously reclusive figure so the likelihood of a Neutral Milk Hotel reunion didn't seem too likely, but in 2013, 14 years after their break-up, it happened. Thankfully the band's catalogue of alternately woozy psychedelia and stripped back troubadour folk sounded as glorious as ever. Due to enormous demand, the tour has continued into 2015. Mangum has announced that these dates will be the last the band play "for the forseeable future" so don't miss them when they play Webster Hall in New York, NY, Closed January 28, 2014
Performance date: 27 January 2014
