The Light

The Light at Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater

Why see The Light?

Off-Broadway Premiere

Loy A. Webb's explosive two-hander, The Light, heralds in a new dawn for the MCC Theater as they move to their new home at the Robert W. Wilson space. In a time of Brett Kavanaugh, #MeToo and intersectional feminism Webb invites us to challenge our built-in biases in this rom-com with a twist.

Rashad and Genesis are celebrating their two year anniversary. With Rashad intending on 'popping the question' what should have been the happiest night of their lives soon turns into turmoil as the pair battle it out over prejudices, forgiveness and long-hidden secrets. Will the power of love be able to save them?

Loy A. Webb

Born in Chicago, Webb began her career as an attorney and theatre journalist. The Light was Webb's debut play and was nominated for the Black Theater Alliance, Joseph Jefferson Award. The MCC Theater production will be The Light's New York premiere with her second play, His Shadow receiving its premiere in September.
