You're invited to the wedding of the year as Mira Nair's fantastic adaptation of her 2001 film enjoys its Off-Broadway debut at the St. Ann's Warehouse. The tale of a much anticipated arranged marriage in Delhi, this glorious musical celebrates the highs and lows when two very different families come together in the pursuit of love!
A love letter to Nair's own Punjabi heritage, Monsoon Wedding appeared as a film in 2001, telling the story of one very elaborate wedding - and all the chaos surrounding it! Originally premiering in London in 2021, this vibrant and touching production features a book by Arpita Mukherjee, music by Vishal Bhardwaj, and lyrics by Masi Asare and Susan Birkenhead.
What is the story?
As the day of their very expensive and grand wedding approaches, the bride and groom grapple with their pasts as they prepare to enter an arranged marriage. With guests coming from across the country and further, romantic connections spark all over the place - but will love blossom for the central couple, and will they be able to pull it off before the rains come?
