World Premiere
The difficult relationship between a father and his elderly mother comes under the spotlight in this world premiere play from Max Posner. Directed by David Cromer, the darkly comic The Treasurer introduces us to Ida Armstrong, an aging lady whose rampant spending of her children's money forces her son to take control of her finances. It's an arrangement which places even more strain on their frosty relationship, with the son questioning just how far his familial loyalty can be stretched. This Playwrights Horizons production is led by Tony winner Deanna Dunagan (August: Osage County) and Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Ragtime).
A Rising Talent
Posner, who has been marked out as one of the country's brightest young playwriting talents, specialises in delving into the cracks of family dynamics, bringing to life those small moments and interactions which can shape a whole life. He made his New York debut with 2015's bittersweet comedy Judy, which was set in a dystopian future where internet connections had actually gotten worse (horror of horrors).
