The New York City Center's musical theatre staple Encores! is pulling no punches during its 2020 season. Turning back the clock to the golden era of song, dance and film, the Tony-winning stage concert series proudly presents Thoroughly Modern Millie, the ultimate razzle dazzle tribute to New York City, its bustling streets and one-of-a-kind inhabitants.
Staged with its original orchestrations still in tact so as to preserve its nostalgic sonic magic, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a 2002 musical based on the 1967 film of the same name. It chronicles the capers of a feisty young flapper named Millie at the height of the roaring 20s. Determined to pull her self up by her own bootstraps, she sets her sights on the wealthy businessman Trevor Graydon, even thought she's rather attracted to a poor paper-clip salesman named Jimmy. Trevor on the other hand, has eyes for Millie's roommate Dorothy, throwing a spanner into the works. Amidst the tangled web of love, Dorothy's landlady has nefarious machinations of her own...
