Kicking off the 2018 season at The New York City Center in January, this natural progression of Jack Viertel's enduring 25-year musical review Encores celebrates the biggest tunes on Broadway that the original show have yet to perform and put their unique tongue-in-cheek spin on! Credited in part for helping revive the popularity of musicals such as Chicago, Wonderful Town, and Finian's Rainbow, this newest offering will feature tunes from the little-known musicals Mack & Mabel, Greenwillow, Wildcat and many, many more!
A leading light in Broadway revivals
Devised as a taster series for people to enjoy music from often-forgotten or little-known Broadway musicals, the Encores! concert series is notable for having revived shows that have since transferred to Broadway. Notable shows that received their second chances include
the 2008 revival Gypsy, which starred Patti LuPone, Boyd Gaines, and Laura Benanti. A Tony recepient for Excellence in Theater, it is also responsible for bringing Kander and Ebb's Chicago back to the public sphere; after transferring to Broadway in 1996, it is now the second-longest running show there, surpassed only by The Phantom Of The Opera!
