Why See Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre?
This Joyous December!
This winter at the New York City Center, the Ailey company brings you five weeks of dance that reveals our deepest humanity and our capability of endurance. Each performance will offer a different selection of various routines. Alvin Ailey's inspiring masterpiece of Revelations, the world's most popular work of modern dance, will also be there to captivate our emotions.
Alvin Ailey's Revelations was first produced in New York City (1960), and soon became a cultural treasure beloved by generations of fans. Seeing Revelations for the first time (or hundredth) can be an otherworldly experience. It tells the story of African-American faith and the determination from slavery to freedom.
In addition to the many returning favorites, there is also six premiere and new productions! A night filled with inspiration for every generation. The Golden Section by Twyla Tharp is one that can't be missed! Full of breathtaking leaps and set to a new wave rock score it projects true power and beauty.
