...the Korean-Canadian-American playwright whisks us across borders, plunges us into the depths of the ocean, and endeavors to convey the immigrant experience and advocate for the concept that everyone has a right to just exist.

A bold new work by up and coming Asian American playwright Celine Song
After a stunning world premiere at Cambridge's American Repertory Theatre in February 2019, up and coming playwright Celine Song's new work Endlings makes its Off-Broadway debut as part of the New York Theatre Workshop's 2019/20 season. Song once again partners with dynamic young director Sammi Cannold, whose creative vision manifested an immersive 4100 gallon aquarium on stage during the ART production.
Song weaves an exquisite tale around the haenyeos or 'sea women' of South Korea, who dive deep below the waves to gather seafood to sell. Set on the island of Man-Jae as well as the island of Manhattan, the story follows three of these sea women and a Korean-Canadian playwright struggling with the notion of authenticity and cultural honesty in her own work. Fascinating and eye opening, Endlings poses questions about identity and the obligation to one's own heritage.
