Having written songs for the likes of Johnny Cash, Travis Tritt and EmmyLou Harris, he has since become a renowned author and actor, appearing on two HBO shows, The Wire and Treme. He is recognised for bridging the gap between rock and country music, something that few artists have managed to do successfully.
