Girl From The North Country

Girl From The North Country at Newman Theater

Why see Girl From The North Country?

New York Premiere

The Public Theatre plays host to the much anticipated New York premiere of this Olivier award-winning theatrical delight from Connor McPherson that weaves the songs of Bob Dylan into the story of a small town in Minnesota. First seen at London's Old Vic theatre where it was instantly successful with audiences and critics alike, GFTNC is a spellbinding and exquisite way to enjoy the sonic legacy of a true folk icon.

Remember me to one who lives there

A tribute to his career and output in the most perfectly Dylan way possible, Girl From The North Country takes us on an anachronistic trip back in time to Depression-era Duluth, Minnesota where a cast of characters from the man's mind and songs are waiting to take us on an extraordinary journey into the ordinary.

Songs from every age of Dylan illustrate the story of a boarding house owner on the edge of ruin and the citizens of the town who flock to it. Some are there for the long haul, some are there fleetingly, but within each lies equal measures of tragedy, hope and humanity.

Great Play

This is simply a great play. The music, the acting and the different scenes are well done. It is easy to follow, there is nothing confusing and this play is not hard to follow. The actors are great, and professionals. Do not deter yourself from seeing this great piece of art. Those who gave it 1 star are jealous period. ... Read more

Experience Dylan like you never have before.

The set list alone should get your attention! Incredible. Exquisite renderings set like dream clouds in the play. No it doesn't drive like a tank with its plot and so for those story minded folks they may be confused but let go of your preconceived notions about musicals and bask in the time and place and the way the sterling songs lift you to a deeper more contemplative state. ... north country in Los Angeles

set aside your usual demands for a "plot". it not going in that direction. It's a time in history. The Depression. A rooming house. Folks trying to hold on. The music soars like dream clouds out of this scenario. There is so much joy and freedom from the exquisite performances all set against the grim reality of the 1930's that one can not leave without a sense of hope and joy in spite of the times. ...
