2017 sees Atlantic Theater Company co-founder David Mamet present a new play at the Linda Gross Theatre, written especially for ATC. A Pulitzer-winning playwright who has shaped American theatre and movies worlds with his sharp, curse-filled dialogue - termed 'Mamet speak' - his explosive past masterpieces include Glengarry Glen Ross, Speed-the-Plow and American Buffalo.
This 2017 premiere is ominously titled The Penitent, and tells the story of a psychiatrist who is asked to testify in a trial involving one of his patients. His career and life is thrown into disaray when he refuses to take the stand. Leading the cast of The Penitent is The Walking Dead's Lawrence Gillard Jr. and True Blood's Chris Bauer. The Penitent promises to be yet another scorching work from a true American master.
