A Bold British Historical Thriller
After wowing US audiences during 59E59 Theaters' Brits Off Broadway festival, blood-pumping war thriller Operation Crucible enjoys a strictly limited 8 week run at New York City's Davenport Theatre, October 31st to December 26th 2018. Written by up-and-coming British playwright Kieran Knowles, the heavy-hitter weaves together historical drama with a deeply moving personal story of friendship, trauma and survival in the face of the unimaginable.
Based on the true story of the December 12th, 1940 bombing of Sheffield's Marples Hotel, Operation Crucible is set at the height of World War II's Blitz. When the seven-story hotel is decimated by a single German bomb, little hope is left for survivors, but four steelworkers somehow manage to survive the blast in one of the hotel's only intact cellars. The brave men bond and share fears whilst the world crumbles around them, searching for hope and light in each other's company when only darkness surrounds.
