Courtney Baron's new work poignantly examines the aftermath of school shootings

Why See When It's You?

PlaysOff Broadway Shows

A world premiere play

A timely exploration into American gun violence, Courtney Baron's new work asks us to examine our own relationships with the epidemic through the eyes of a middle-aged woman who finds herself inextricably linked with a mass shooting that happened in her home town. Faced with her own personal struggles, she must move back to her home town to sort out her late mother's estate and deal with gossip and speculation over her links to the shooter. A raw and contemporary insight into a tragic phenomenon facing the country, this play is produced by the Keen Company.

What is it about?

Following the loss of her mother to illness, single 37-year old Ginnifer has moved back to her hometown into her mother's home. All seems plain sailing until she discovers that her old high school boyfriend committed a heinous mass shooting at their school after she had transferred out. Ginnifer finds herself asking questions about her own association to the crime, as well as examining her place as a single middle-aged woman in modern-day America.

Baron's previous plays have won acclaim for their focus on youth in society, including Consumption, a historically based insight into the fatal 19th century disease, through the eyes of four afflicted young people. Her works have been staged at the Guthrie in Minneapolis and Actors Theatre of Louisville, where the 24-hour Plays were staged.
