Sayonara

An epic love story set in post-WWII Japan
Why see Sayonara?
An Epic Musical
A lavish musical much in the tradition of Miss Siagon or South Pacific, Sayonora is an epic love story set against the backdrop of war. It follows Lloyd 'Ace' Gruver, a disillusioned American fighter pilot stationed in post-WWII Japan, who falls in love with Japanese actress Hana-Ogi. It's a relationship which flies in the face of the prejudiced views of the day, forcing the couple to take drastic steps to stay together.
Based on the novel by James Michener, Sayonara was adapted into a Oscar-winning movie in 1957, with Marlon Brando in the lead role. The musical version, which boasts music & lyrics by George Fischoff and Hy Gilbert and a book by William Lucy (The Belle of Amherst), was first staged at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 1987. This new Pan Asian Rep production stars Morgan MCann, Ya Han Change and is directed by Tisa Change.
