Why See Boston Symphony Orchestra - Strauss?

With Renee Fleming!

The Boston Symphony Orchestra once again are graced by the presence of powerhouse vocalist Renee Fleming who'll join them for this delightful all Strauss program, featuring selections from his opera Capriccio and a recital of the ever popular Also Sprach Zarathusa.

From Capriccio you'll be treated to three extracts, the chamber style Sextet for Strings, Moonlight Music and the Closing Scene. Known as a 'conversation piece for music', the opera muses on the impact of art, poetry and music, and which of them could be the greatest. Continuing the questioning theme is Also Sprach Zarathusa, probably one of the world's most famous tone poems, as based on Nietzsche's own philosophical novel of the same name.

Cranston's wrenching performance stands on its own. In context, it's a terrifying reminder of how an all-too-human, anger-filled public figure, with access to a worldwide stage, can be mistaken for a god.
