Celebrating Sam Shepard

Sam Shepard's Pulitzer Prize-Nominated True West is heading to Broadway at the end of 2018, starring Paul Dano and Ethan Hawke, stars of both stage and screen, True West is set to be the hottest ticket on Broadway this season. Revived by Roundabout Theatre Company this rip-roaring classic celebrates Shepard, who sadly passed away last summer, and his ingenious talent.

Although nominated for the prestigious Pulitzer-Prize back in 1983, True West didn't debut on Broadway until the year 2000. This 2018 revival is a particularly special production for four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke as he worked closely with Shepard throughout his career. Honouring his friend, Hawke will be playing 'lowlife' Lee as he wrestles with his older brother, Austin (Paul Dano) on issues big and small.

Ethan Hawke and Paul Dano

Hawke's movie credits include Boyhood, Before Midnight, Before Sunset and Training day, as well as producing, co-writing and directing the movie Blaze. Dano first cut his Broadway teeth back in 1995 at the tender age of 10, when he starred in A Month In The Country alongside the fames actress, Dame Helen Mirren. Since then Dano has gone onto be a regular feature on the stage and in both movies and TV shows, namely in the likes of 12 Years a Slave, There Will Be Blood and the BBC television series of War & Peace where he played the troubled Pierre.

What is True West about?

Lee and Austin have never seen eye to eye. Austin, the successful and ambitious screen writer has always seen his brother Lee, as a lazy and undetermined drifter. Whilst visiting their Mother's recently abandoned Californian home, Austin and Lee battle each other on issues big and small. However as the fuelling brothers begin to air out old resentments and discover some life-twisting revelations, could this last visit be the tonic that brothers need to reconnect?
