The CEO and chairman of CNN Mark Thompson has said "Good Night, and Good Luck is not just a celebration of a golden age in TV journalism; It's also about the importance of the free press and the need for strong news organizations to report the facts in a fair-minded way. That's something we still care deeply about."

Set in the 1950s, when the Communist 'witch hunt' is at its peak, the play chronicles the daring endeavors of legendary broadcaster Edward Murrow and his producer Fred Friendly as they challenge Senator McCarthy's intimidation tactics. Despite facing resistance from CBS and the constraints imposed by sponsors, Murrow confronts the establishment to unmask the falsehoods propagated in McCarthy's anti-communist crusade. While concerning events of over 60 years ago the events of Good Night and Good Luck and the true story it is based on remain a vital reminder of the role of the media in challenging fallacies from overblown individuals at any cost.
