Buena Vista Social Club Wins Big At The Grammys!
Broadway and musical theatre made a strong showing at the ceremony
The Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album goes to Buena Vista Social Club, with Marco Paguia, Dean Sharenow, and David Yazbek credited on the win!
This year, the category was stacked, with Death Becomes Her, Gypsy, Just in Time, and Maybe Happy Ending also nominated.
In his acceptance speech, Sharenow gave a heartfelt shoutout to the generations of composers and performers behind the music, expressing how the sound still has a major impact on audiences around the world - even those who don't speak Spanish.
Other Grammy Winners
Theatre-adjacent wins didn't stop there. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande picked up a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their rendition of "Defying Gravity" from the Wicked film. The pair weren't able to attend, so Darren Criss accepted the award on their behalf.
Elsewhere, Heggie: Intelligence won Best Opera Recording, while the horror-musical Sinners had a standout night, taking home both Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, thanks to Ludwig Gransson. Animated musical KPop Demon Hunters also scored a win, earning Best Song Written for Visual Media for "Golden."
Adding to the musical theatre love, Laufey won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for A Matter of Time, continuing her crossover success between classical influences and modern pop.
Tony winner Darren Criss pulled double duty by hosting the 2026 Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony - and performing. He was joined by his Maybe Happy Ending co-star Helen J Shen, with composer Will Aronson accompanying them, for a performance of the show's title song.
