What it means to love, be loved, and feel alive

Set in a not-so-distant future Seoul, Maybe Happy Ending is a tender, thought-provoking Broadway musical that explores what it means to love, be loved, and feel alivethrough the lens of two obsolete helper robots. When Oliver and Claire, two out-of-use models left behind in a high-rise apartment complex, form an unlikely bond, they begin to experience emotions and memories once thought beyond their programming. With a delicate blend of humor, heart, and hauntingly beautiful music, Maybe Happy Ending offers a fresh, futuristic twist on timeless questions of connection and companionship.

Why should I watch Maybe Happy Ending?

Darren Criss earns his first ever Tony Award!

If you're looking for a reason to catch Maybe Happy Ending, let its stellar 2025 Tony Awards performance be your sign it's not just a heartfelt musical, it's award-winning too! This tender (albeit unlikely!) robot romance musical took Broadway by storm at the 78th Annual Tony Awards, racking up six Tony wins, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction (Michael Arden), and Best Scenic Design. Plus, Broadway favorite Darren Criss earned his first ever Tony (Best Actor in a Musical) for his moving portrayal of Oliver, delivering both emotional resonance and the star power he's exuded ever since his Glee days.

Who is behind this Tony-winning musical?

We are everyday robots in the process of getting home

Behind Maybe Happy Ending is the creative duo Will Aronson and Hue Park an international, crosscultural partnership of composer-lyricist and lyricist-book writer whose work transcends language. The idea first sparked in 2014 when Hue was struck by a lyric written by Damon Albarn (from British bands Blur and Gorillaz). The lyric, from Albarn's song 'Everyday Robots', simply goes: "We are everyday robots in the process of getting home". However, it struck a chord with Park, who reached out to his NYU friend Will Aronson with the idea to explore a robotic love story. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Winner of six Korea Musical Awards AND six Tony Awards!

Aronson and Park actually developed the show simultaneously in both Korean and English. Park brought his Kpop lyricist mastery and Korean poetic sensitivity, while Aronson layered lush acoustic-jazz compositions and translated their emotional world into English. The show premiered in Seoul's Daehakro theatre district in 2016, earning six Korea Musical Awards, before evolving through workshops and regional productions in the U.S., ultimately earning its Broadway debut under Tony-winning director Michael Arden.

With a foundation in personal inspiration, innovative bilingual writing, and years of refinement, Maybe Happy Ending is a true originalits heartbeat a testament to its creators' global vision.
