Broadway's Days of Wine and Roses to Close Sooner Than Expected

Adam Guettel-Craig Lucas's Musical To Close End Of March

The musical "Days of Wine and Roses" is wrapping up its limited Broadway run ahead of schedule. Initially planned to continue until April 28, the production will now conclude on March 31 at Studio 54. This heartfelt musical, with a book by Craig Lucas and a score by Adam Guettel, delves into the challenges faced by a married couple dealing with substance abuse. After 25 previews and 73 regular performances, the curtain will fall on this poignant tale of love and struggle.

A Statement From Kevin McCollum

Producer Kevin McCollum said: "On behalf of my producing partners, it has been a true honor to produce this exquisitely beautiful production. Days of Wine and Roses may be ending its engagement at Studio 54, but it will have a long life on our cast album, in future productions, and in the hearts and minds of the people lucky enough to have experienced it on Broadway and Off-Broadway this summer at the Atlantic Theater Company. What is exciting is that Broadway theatergoers will still have 31 more chances to see Kelli O'Hara and Brian d'Arcy James in this glorious production."

What is 'Days of Wine and Roses' About?

Adapted from the 1962 film and a 1958 teleplay, Days of Wine and Roses starred Kelli O'Hara and Brian d'Arcy James as a couple who meet up in the airport departures lounge on their way to a new and exciting life neither of them can know what the future has in store for them. As they fall in love, they also fall down a miasmic rabbit hole of alcoholism, which they cannot escape from.

Cast and Creative

As well as Kelli O'Hara and Brian d'Arcy James, the incredible ensemble cast featured notable talents, including Byron Jennings as Arnesen, Sharon Catherine Brown as Mrs. Nolan, Bill English as Mr. Shaw, Olivia Hernandez as Betty, and David Jennings as Jim Hungerford.

Under the expert guidance of director Michael Greif, the production showcased choreography by Sergio Trujillo and Karla Puno Garcia, scenic design by Lizzie Clachan, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Kai Harada, and hair and wigs by David Brian Brown. The orchestrations by Guettel and Jamie Lawrence added depth to the musical tapestry, while Kimberly Grigsby skillfully directed the music.
