Beetlejuice, Stomp!, Into The Woods, and many more bid farewell to the New York stage!

As one door closes, another one opens...

We bring sad news, New York has said their goodbyes to multiple fan-favorite productions such as Beetlejuice, Stomp!, Into The Woods, Almost Famous and 1776.

We first started seeing everyone's beloved trickster haunting the stage when the production first hit Broadway in 2019 where it garnered eight Tony award nominations. And we all know what happened after 2019... 2020 - which sadly shut down every Broadway show. Beetlejuice had a unique way to continue reaching its fans by using social media to keep them entertained during the tough time of the pandemic. This worked massively in their favor when it reopened at Marquis Theatre, bringing a new and engaging audience to Broadway, there was no seat left untouched. An overwhelming demand for this adored musical saw the green-haired ghost take to the American road on tour.

The long-running percussion and dance spectacle production, Stomp! took the stage on February 27, 1994, at The Orpheum Theatre and has played 13 previews and an astonishing 11,472 performances. The globally known show took New York by storm and gained instant success with The New York Times dubbing it "a sure-fire crowd pleaser with a rock-and-roll heart." Stomp! was awarded numerous awards such as an Oliver award for Best Choreography, a Drama Desk award for Unique Theatre Experience, and New York's OBIE Award. With its unique blend of music, rhythmic movement, and humorous visuals, Stomp! has become a staple in the Broadway scene and will continue to be legendary. All good things must come to an end, after nearly 30 years onstage the production has performed its final performance for good, back to where it all started at the Orpheum Theatre on January 8, 2023, the production will truly be missed.

The enchanting musical, Into The Woods, closed on January 8, 2023. The adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales has been in production on Broadway since 2012. It all started in November 1987 when the world of Broadway welcomed this show with open arms. With Lapine's book, music, and twisty lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the show has received critical acclaim and won three Tony awards including best score, book, and lead actress as well as the revival bagging another award in 2010. The production went from on stage to the big screen in 2014 and starred familiar faces, Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, and James Corden. But don't be too sad! Although the broadway production has come to an end, they will be heading out on a national tour from February 18, 2023, starting at Shea's Buffalo Theatre, New York.

The new musical, Almost Famous, based on the smash hit 2000 film has ended its Broadway run after the opening show on October 3, 2022, the closing show took place on January 8, 2023. Before closing the production have played 30 preview performances as well as 77 performances. Alongside Pulitzer Prizer winner Kitt's new sounds, the production also combined the movie's classic soundtrack, including songs from Led Zepplin, David Bowie, Elton John, and many more. Despite the show closing after 3 months, it has received praise for its energetic performance and nostalgic storytelling.

The classic Tony award-winning musical, 1776 had there final Broadway show on January 8, 2023. Before hip-hop blockbuster phenomenon Hamilton ruled the Broadway roost, the historic musical 1776 got the country's patriotic blood pumping. Upon the closing date, the production has played 23 previews and 108 performances. Due to the lack of ticket sales the show sadly had to have an abrupt curtain call, but all is not lost, the production will be heading on a national tour starting February 10, 2023, at Stanley Performing Arts Center, New York.

While it is always sad to see a production close, the Broadway community is grateful for the talents and efforts of the casts and crews of these shows. Their contributions will not be forgotten, and the memories of these productions will live on in the hearts of theatergoers for years to come.
