Swapping the beaches of Baywatch for the Broadway stage, Pamela Anderson will make her Broadway debut this spring in the sultry spectacular. Appearing from April 12 to June 15, the superstar actor and activist will be stepping into the stockings of the show's lead, Roxie Hart.
Speaking on the announcement, Anderson enthused "I have always been a huge fan of Bob Fosse's and Gwen Verdon's work. Ann Reinking, too," said Anderson in a statement. "Playing Roxie Hart is a dream fulfilled. Performing Fosse, you don't have time to get in your head. You can't dance, sing, and think at the same time. There is a freedom, a unique joy in knowing it's all about the work. Playing Roxie Hart is a sweet escape for me."
Telling the sordid story of merry murderesses in the 1930s, Chicago is a musical theater institution, with the run at the Ambassadors Theatre now clocking in at over 25 years. Full of catchy standards and of course, excellent and exhilarating dance, it's a must-see when visiting New York!
The musical, considered too dark when it failed in 1975, today seems right in keeping with hard-learned cynicism about the American justice system.
