A Raisin In The Sun

A Raisin In The Sun at Astor Place Theatre

Why see A Raisin In The Sun?

A public theatre REVIVAL

Lorraine Hansberry's classic family drama returns with this brand new revival by New York City's Public Theatre. Tony Award nominee Robert O'Hara (Slave Play) will direct the production, promising a fresh take on this heart-wrenching family drama and seminal piece of American theatre.

A Raisin in the Sun was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway. It was also one of the very first on Broadway to take an in-depth look at the experiences of African-American families in pre-civil rights USA. Although Hansberry's groundbreaking play was initially considered to be a risky investment, it went on to run for nearly two years and received four Tony nominations.

You won't be disappointed !

The cast did an amazing job! Denzel 's performance was outstanding. after seeing the play once before , this time definitely topped the first time. If you buy a ticket you won't be disappointed. It's like seeing him act in a movie but in real life . The other cast members did a great job also. The play is a must see. ... Read more

OUTSTANDING!

The play was OUTSTANDING! I laughed, I cried, I recited some of the lines along with the performers. Denzel was an excellent choice to play Walter Lee and LaTonya Richardson-Jackson was an excellent choice to play Lena. I could not visualize Diahann Carole as Lena, too proper speaking. It's almost like someone reciting "In the Mornin" by Paul Laurence Dunbar who does not possess a down home dialect, Lol. The director, Kenny Leon gave me his autograph and he was EXTREMELY humble and polite as well as Mrs. LaTonya Richardson-Jackson who gave me an autograph the next day when I went back to the theater hoping to get Denzel's autograph, which I'm told he does not sign autographs before the performance. But I got a glimpse of him as he swiftly got out the the car and walked into the open door next to the theater. I LOVED, LOVED the play and Lorraine Hansberry is smiling down on the cast from heaven and saying "Well Done". ... Read more
