What Did The Critics Think Of Be More Chill?

Now playing at the Lyceum Theatre.

After a sell-out run off-Broadway in 2018, Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz's cult hit has finally hit Broadway! Opening at the Lyceum Theatre on March 10 Be More Chill is already a hit for audience members, but what did the critics think?

Variety said, "Traditional theatergoing audiences that tend to be older than the teens and twentysomethings that packed Off Broadway run will find delicious favor in Iconis' contagious melodies and tricky lyrics", before summing up the production as "'Be More Chill is Broadway's wiliest and socially savviest night out for teens and parents alike".

Deadline was full of praise for the musical saying, "To quote from the tenacious - and tenaciously enjoyable - Be More Chill, the Joe Iconis-Joe Tracz musical arrives on Broadway with just enough of an "upgrade" from last summer's Off Broadway staging to fill its new home and the greater expectations that come with the move. The costumes, the scenic design, the projections of computer gimcrackery and video game effects all seem buffed, beglittered and amped up just enough to suit Broadway demands without swamping the heart and humor that caught everyone's attention in the first place."

Vulture was also full of praise for Be More Chill saying "The zippy, delightfully devilish Be More Chill is the latest tale of teen angst to convert crippling self-doubt and frustrated desire into the sound of music, and the results are enjoyable not just for their energy and charm but also for the streak of knowing wickedness running through all the pop and fizz."

It looks like Be More Chill's Broadway run has kicked off to a promising start!

What is Be More Chill about?

Based on the 2004 novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill tells the story of school loser Jeremy Heere as he strives to become one of the popular kids, by ingesting a pill-sized computer that instructs him in the ways of 'cool'.

Be More Chill is now playing at the Lyceum Theater.
