Amazing show!!!!
My sister and I were fortunate enough to see this show during previews. We saw the understudy for delilah and she was simply magnificent! The sets, the story, the music, the characters - it was so much fun, yet serious as well. A great show that I hope I can see again. Highly recommended!!!!
Mother and teen daughter review
My fourteen-year-old daughter and I waited for the doors to open. Looking around I saw I was standing near two other mothers and their early teen daughters. My daughter and I had both read the mother/daughter authors’ (Picoult/Van Leer) book, with the same title. We were excited to see how the book would be adapted for the stage. My daughter and I were both impressed with the set and how the duality of the two worlds (reality and book) were portrayed. The music was marvelous, and each singer was incredible. We happened to be at the very first preview performance and learned that the actors had not had a full-dress rehearsal yet. Lack of rehearsal was not apparent at all. Overall, it was very professional. Arielle Jacobs truly stole the show with her amazing voice and sweet, authentic portrayal of Delilah. Jake David Smith was wonderful and the two had great on-stage chemistry. The basic story line stays primarily true to the book with a small difference in the ending – and I like this ending better! I do wish I could say that I loved this musical whole-heartedly. However, the musical added many sexual references that were not included in the book. It was as if the playwrights tried to create a wider audience than us moms and teen daughters by just throwing in sexual comments and thrusting motions. I found this attempt severely lacking and would not have chosen to have my daughter exposed to that. I believe adults can enjoy a sweet fairy tale just as well as a teen. (Think Princess Bride)
