THIS SHOW IS ON FIRE

We saw a great new show last night: Hells Kitchen at The Public Theater downtown. It was the biggest collection of talent on a single stage since Hamilton opened there a hundred years ago. It was energetic, moving, engaging and loveable. The first act reveals the incredible range of vocal talent this show holds. I didn’t want it to end. The second act pulls the heartstrings and feels real and sad and loving. As we left the theater I vowed to buy tickets to see it again before it closes. It’s that remarkable.

OVERBEARING, TOO LOUD, MEDIOCRE STORY

I had high hopes for this show, but the music was far too loud, and the reverb was so high that I couldn't understand any lyrics. The choreography was excessive and drew attention to itself. I did like the elevator opening and the inspiring character who played piano in the Ellington Room. But the overbearing volume and reverb kept pushing me away. It made me angry to be there, wasting my time. Could not wait to leave. The worst show I've seen in recent years!
