This Mojada Medea is no Chingona
The result of transposing the classic Medea tragedy within the very current context of the Mexican migrants' struggle is unsatisfying and contrived in the end and actually seems to trivialize what is already a very real and tragic drama of a mother's struggle and the possibility of being separated from her child. Spoiler alert if you don't know the story of Medea -- The murder of a child as revenge ( yet another "woman gone mad" story) simply doesn't translate within this modern context where it would make more sense to have the Mojada (slang for wetback) transform into a Chingona (bad a** woman). Aside from that, the acting and production at the Public Theater is wonderful and certainly worth it for those seeking an evening of dramatic theater.
