Wow! This is one if the best productions I have ever seen. Spine tingling from beginning to end. The cast, orchestra, staging, everything was superb. This show should run and run. I was having to compare it with the Royal National Theatre production back in 1989, a wonderful production and hard to beat but the 2018 Broadway production wins hands down. Wish I could see it all again. Book your tickets now and go and enjoy one of the greatest musical ever written, performed with a freshness and spark by a five star cast. The highlight of a holiday in NEW York.

We saw this show from two points of view - one had never seen the show before, I had played Billy in a version of it some years ago. We were both blown away - Joshua Henry was excellent and I know I was well outclassed. My boy Bill was a showstopper in itself. Rest of the cast were great - Jigger included. Production great. The audience gave the show a standing ovation spontaneously. My partner raved all night about the show and the next day too. Yes the seats are a tad tight.

Spellbinding! Saw this on Thursday evening. 3/23 after having been up since 3:30am. But would have stayed to see it again if they had performed it again immediately after our first viewing. Had my son in the theatre lobby at intermission to take my 10 year old granddaughter back to the hotel if she crashed half way through but she was so engaged she refused to leave and we all had trouble getting to sleep that night because we kept thinking about the show- the incredible sets, the story and songs and the world class talent. After a cram-packed long weekend in NYC (including seeing Frozen, Wicked and Mean Girls) we all (including the 10 year old) agreed Carousel was our hands down favorite experience! Bravo!!!

Not sure which superlative to use without sounding corny. From orchestration and choreography to acting and singing, the talent is the very best that broadway has to offer! The dancing showcases the ballet background of many of the cast members. Some of them being principal dancers with major ballet companies. Wonderfully inventive set design. And the voices, Oh the beautiful voices. I only hope they make a cast recording. I saw the show 5 days into previews and did not experience any of the negatives expressed by other reviewers. Our seats in the second row center were excellent for viewing, but legroom was a little tight in this theater.

With weeks ahead of it before opening, this polished, lovely jewel already shines radiantly. Joshua Henry commands attention, and if in earlier performances he lacked nuance, he has it now, swaggering and sympathetic by turns. Jessie Mueller's theatre- filling soprano is sure and controlled. Scene-stealing performances, too, from Lindsay Mendez (Carrie with a lovely blend of strength and humor) and Renee Fleming (Nettie). Strong voices are balanced with lyrically sweet balletic movement and flowing choreography. The brass ring goes to Santo Loquasto for a delicate, understated, nostalgic scene design, and to Ann Roth for varied, interesting and evolving costumes from wigs to boots. Hard to believe this book and music is almost 75 years old. In the Imperial Theatre, it is fresh and tender and bittersweet, with no high-fallutin' gimmicks to distract from the original work, with as strong a second act as anyone could wish for in a traditional, emotionally moving Broadway masterpiece.

Fantabulous!!! Carousel is wonderful. Jessie Mueller, Joshua Henry and Renee Fleming were all terrific but I have to say that Joshua Henry stole the show. He was an excellent Billy Bigelow and his voice just takes your breath away. A show not to be missed.

What we thought

TOUCHING Timeless beautiful

The dance is breathtaking and demonstrates how the cycle of destruction will keep occurring unless a change is made.

Carousel's return to Broadway could not be timelier - the iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical explores domestic violence in Maine in the late 19th century as well as prejudice, jealousy and control.
