Why See Love and Intrigue?

The Great Russian Tragedy

Often compared to Romeo and Juliet, Friedrich Schiller's Kabale und Liebe (Love and Intrigue) also features a doomed romance between two young star-crossed lovers, who must fight against their parents to be together. One of the landmark bourgeoisie tragedies, it's a heightened satire of class conflict, ripe with larger than life characters and plot twists.

Performed in Russian with English titles, this Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg production is directed by Lev Dodin, whose productions of Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters and the Cherry Orchard have previously wowed Brooklyn Academy of Music audiences. Russian movie star Danila Kozlovsky leads the cast.
