COULD HAVE DIED NE BETTER

We got tickets to see Jerry for Christmas. I didn’t watch the Seinfeld tv series as it didn’t appeal to me all the time nor are either of us our big fans of his material but we were open minded and wanted to give it a try. First time at Beacon theatre and it was magnificent- Jerry not so much. He did have his moments but overall his performance was mediocre. We went to the 7 PM show but he kept looking at his watch as if he was catching a train - oh wait he had to wrap it up for the next show starting at 930. Sound system was a bit off too. His material at times was very funny - other times blasé - as I mentioned overall mediocre. I’m glad I didn’t pay for the tickets. My recommendation based on the cost - do one longer show a night and actually demonstrate to the audience that you’re not just mailing it in which is how it appeared.

JERRY AT THE KRAVIS

This is the third time we have seen at the Kravis. First two times he gave a great performance, almost 90 minutes. This time we were disappointed. His opening act came on at 7:10 for a 7:00 show, and was onstage until 7:25. Jerry came on as he exited the stage also at 7:25. He finished at 8:22,with the last five minutes being “ question and answer” He barely gave us a full hour. He had a 9:30 show following ours, and we felt as though he rushed this performance. Although his performance is still spot on, we will not be going to see him again.

STUMBLING THROUGH OLD MATERIAL

Expensive tickets to see this show, and I would have expected Seinfeld to be more polished. He's reading from notecards and stumbling between jokes with a lot of filler language. A surprising amount of his material was old, and why? He's had nearly 3 years to prepare this show, so why not write some new bits? He remains a superlative performer--even better than before--but his material and lack fo preparation gave me the sense he doesn't care about his audience.

DISAPPOINTING

Just saw Seinfeld at the Beacon. I am an enormous Seinfeld fan and was extremely excited to see the show. The last time i saw him i laughed for 90 straight minutes. I never thought I would say this, but I was extremely disappointed. He seemed unprepared as he kept losing his place and referring to notecards. He completely bombed a work from home joke by confusing “work” and “home” and then said “oops”. More importantly, the material was either recycled or just meh. If you’re going to try out new material, do it at small comedy clubs where the patrons aren’t paying an arm and a leg to come and see you. You owe your fans a fully polished show when you start charging them big money to see you. Very very disappointing.

MEH

I was glad to see Jerry Seinfeld in person, as he's an icon of standup comedy. He certainly had presence, and some of his bits made me smile. A couple evoked a small laugh. Why didn't I find the show hilarious? A lot of people in the audience seemed to. I was ready to laugh. But. I wish he had mined more from his experience of not wanting to do anything. That was good and promised to be rich but somehow he didn't get there. He milked the jet ski and golf cart jokes (he ridiculed both), which were humorous but not laugh-out-loud funny (for me). Maybe he could try slowing down instead of speeding up. Tell us more about his more detailed experience of each instead of rushing through his ridicule on repeat. Also, he tended to play to the audience at stage right, which made this audience member over at stage left a bit frustrated. Do his people not tell him about this?

TIRED DELIVERY OF OLD MATERIAL

I'll start off by saying I'm a BIG Seinfeld fan. I grew up on his show, I love comedians in cars, and I take in as many interviews, specials and performances as I can. This was my 3rd time seeing Seinfeld in Ottawa, and it was by far the worst, and one of the most disappointing evenings I can recall. I'd already heard every joke he told, and the last time I saw him was 4 years prior. Not a great start. He seemed to be rambling a lot, "what were we talking about? Oh right" seemed to be his favourite line. For a comedian who preaches the importance of each word in a joke, it was such a start departure that It was almost disorienting. The loudest noise from the crowd came when he ran on stage, and it petered out from there until the end, when he was met with a standing ovation, because it's Seinfeld, and it's Ottawa. I've loved his past performances, and will continue to love what he has done, but in my estimation this past show was an almost tragic end to a magnificent career.

I paid almost $500 for 2 tickets (including fees) only to have it last about an hour!!!! 😡 Unbelievable
