Fun Fact: Playwright Lanford Wilson was a pioneer of the Off-Off-Broadway theatre movement. He is an honoree of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Theatre Hall of Fame.

Target Audience: Theatre fans who appreciate narrative and strong characters will adore this play. Oh, and the many fans of Adam Driver and Keri Russell.   

Best Bit: Adam Driver - he is absolutely brilliant.  

Morning After Effect: Totally blown away!

Burn This ticks ALL the boxes. I would see it again, and again! Michael Mayer's direction is flawless, the performances are superb, and the set is fantastic. Dereck Mclane's scenic design was excellent and no easy task with this play taking place in one location - seeing his work has heightened my excitement for his upcoming design in Moulin Rouge.  

Adam Driver is on fire in Burn This! He billows onto stage and ignites every piece of this play with his fierce performance as Pale. A grieving brother riddled with guilt and pain from the death of his estranged homosexual brother. Pale finds himself extremely attracted to Anna, the brother's former roommate, and encapsulates her apartment with his presence. Driver's range of emotions are spontaneous and heave effortlessly throughout the play despite this demanding role. He is unwavering and a true talent! Keri Russell (Anna) starts as a gentle breeze, broken from the loss of a good friend and dance partner. Her movements are light and airy as she floats gracefully - just as you would expect a choreographer to move. As wind meets fire, they are unstoppable and their chemistry is mesmerizing.  When Anna grows in vigor determined to push Pale away, Driver's desire burns deeper and it is glorious to witness the two of them utterly swept away by each other. Brandon Uranowitz (Larry), the other roommate, is the perfect kindling with wise cracks and cheeky humor, adding light to this brilliantly written play by Lanford Wilson. Uranowitz is loud and proud and unapologetically gay, and we love him!

Wilson's play takes us back to the late eighties in New York and explores the close relationships we form when moving away from home and forming our "chosen families" who allow you to be entirely authentic. As Driver and Russell live out the sin of infidelity, it becomes apparent that society has their chosen sins too. Driver representing a married man with children who married very young, Russell a damsel in despair likely to marry rich but they are willing to risk it all for love - a burning desire for love knows no boundaries and stereotypes, and Wilson's play is a brilliant tribute. Exploring life and death, passion, the change of seasons and what it means to choose love.
